What the infrared grill burner repair
involves.

An infrared grill burner does not show a line of blue flames; it glows across its whole face, and it tells its condition by how evenly it does so. The technician lights it once, if it is safe to, and watches how quickly and cleanly it catches and whether the glow spreads edge to edge. Then the grill cools, the grate and any cover come out, and the burner is looked at closely: ceramic tiles for cracks, crumbled corners and holes baked shut with grease; mesh or emitter screens for carbon and ash packed into the weave; radiant glass for chips and cracks. The igniter or pilot at the burner's corner is checked, since a late light on an infrared burner is both a nuisance and a warning. Beneath the face, the burner box, its gasket and its seal against the firebox are inspected for rust that lets air around the tile, and the valve and orifice for this burner are checked against the gas in use. Where the face is sound, the fouling is burned off and the ignition corrected; where it is cracked or clogged beyond that, the maker's replacement burner or face is fitted and lit several times.

All service areas

Tampa BayFL · 31 areas

Infrared burners dislike moisture, and on a Tampa Bay patio a ceramic radiant that soaked up rain and was lit straight to high can crack; the technician checks the emitter, its screen and the gas flow, and explains a gentle warm-up after wet weather.

OrlandoFL · 30 areas

Orlando hosts searing steaks for a crowd lean on the infrared station, and grease dripping onto its ceramic tiles clogs the tiny ports until the burner glows in patches, which a careful cleaning or a new emitter puts right.

Miami / South FloridaFL · 47 areas

In South Florida's salt air the stainless screen over an infrared burner pits and sags, and a sear burner that glows unevenly or pops as it lights is checked for a cracked emitter and corroded mounting before it is used again.

New York MetroNY · 75 areas

New York rooftop cooks prize a sear burner for a quick steak on a short summer evening, and when it lights with a bang or never reaches its glow, the technician checks the emitter, the orifice and the wind striking it up high.

HoustonTX · 36 areas

Houston's steakhouse habit keeps infrared sear burners at full heat for long stretches, and that heat plus humid nights can crack ceramic emitters; the repair replaces the emitter and checks the grease path that fed its flare-ups.

ChicagoIL · 50 areas

A Chicagoland infrared burner left uncovered over winter can take water into its ceramic, which cracks when lit in spring, so the technician looks for hairline cracks and a dull, spotty glow before the grill goes back to full heat.

Los AngelesCA · 95 areas

Los Angeles premium grills often carry an infrared sear zone or a whole infrared cooking surface, and wind-blown grit plus year-round grease blocks its ports; the repair clears and tests the burner and replaces it if the ceramic is spent.

San DiegoCA · 31 areas

San Diego's coastal damp can leave an infrared burner slow to light or glowing pale, and the technician checks whether its ceramic is whole and whether salt has eaten the nearby igniter and screen before quoting a new burner.

San Francisco Bay AreaCA · 74 areas

Wind across Bay Area decks makes an infrared burner worth having, since its glow keeps cooking where a blue flame blows out, and when one stops glowing evenly the repair looks at the emitter, the gas supply and the wind guard.

Questions about
the infrared grill burner repair.

Why does my infrared burner only glow on one side?
The other side is not burning through its face: its holes or mesh are clogged, the tile is cracked, or air leaks around a rusted seal. A burn-off on high sometimes clears light fouling; a patch that stays dark after that means the face needs replacing.
Should an infrared sear burner roar when it runs?
A soft hiss is normal. A loud roar, a flame lifting off the face or flame coming out at the front means the burner is starving for air or burning inside the box. Knob off, gas closed at the source, and a visit booked before you sear on it again.
Can an infrared burner be added to a grill that did not have one?
Only where the maker offers it as a fitted option for that model, with its own valve, orifice and ignition. Improvised swaps change the gas rate and the heat load on the box, and we do not make them.
