A large stainless built-in gas grill head set into a stone island on a sunny patio, its hood raised to show three burners glowing with even blue flame under clean stainless grates, the knob panel below with knobs, the access doors under the grill closed, plants softly blurred behind, daylight, seasonless.

Lynx grills,
specifically.

Lynx Professional grills are hand-built stainless heads, sold built-in or on a freestanding cart, with ceramic main burners under briquette trays that light from glowing hot-surface igniters rather than a spark. A Lynx visit starts at the rating plate under the drip tray, because the Professional, All-Trident and older SmartGrill heads are each checked differently.

The Lynx lineup

What is particular
to Lynx.

We work on Lynx Professional built-in and freestanding grills (L27 to L54 models), the All-Trident heads, and the earlier SmartGrill by Lynx with its spoken and app messages. SmartGrill is the only Lynx grill that reports problems in words, so the model decides whether there is a message to ask about.

Igniters that glow instead of click

The Professional line lights each burner with a hot-surface igniter that glows while the knob is pushed in, so there is no clicking to listen for. When a burner will not light, we look at each igniter under its cover with a small mirror before we turn to the gas side.

Trident infrared burner

Many Lynx heads carry a Trident infrared burner for searing, and it has no manual lighting tube like the ceramic burners. It depends on its own igniter and a clean ceramic face, so grease left on a cold Trident is one of the first things we look for.

A rotisserie burner held by a thermocouple

The infrared rotisserie burner at the back has a safety valve that stays open only once its thermocouple is hot. Lynx asks for the knob to be held in for up to a minute, and a burner that dies as soon as the knob is released points us at that thermocouple.

Wind that heats the control panel

Lynx warns that wind blowing into the hood gap from behind can make the control panel dangerously hot. On a head facing the prevailing wind we check knobs, igniter wiring and valves behind the panel for heat damage.

Parts

Igniters, burners, briquette trays and knobs are ordered from the model and serial on the rating plate. SmartGrill control parts belong to that grill alone, so we confirm they can be had before a repair is planned.

Repair or replace

A Lynx head with a sound firebox is worth repairing for igniters, burners, valves and the rotisserie burner. Replacement becomes a fair question when the housing has rusted through or wind heat has damaged the panel, valves and wiring together.

Questions about
Lynx grills.

Why is my Lynx grill silent when I push a knob in to light it?
Lynx Professional grills do not spark. Each burner has a hot-surface igniter that glows while the knob is held in, so silence is normal and the check is whether the igniter turns orange.
Why are the lights on my Lynx grill not working?
Lynx starts with power: a tripped GFCI outlet or a loose connection. If the outlet is live, unplug the grill for five minutes so the transformer can cool and reset, then plug it back in.
Why does my Lynx grill run low on propane even with a full tank?
Lighting in the wrong order can trip the flow control device on the propane tank and cut the heat. Lynx resets it by closing the burners and the tank, waiting 30 seconds and reopening the tank very slowly.
Does the Lynx SmartGrill show error messages?
Yes. The SmartGrill speaks and texts messages such as Burner has no flame or Ambient temperature too high. The Professional and All-Trident grills with ordinary knobs have no messages.
