A large stainless built-in gas grill head set into a stone island on a sunny patio, its hood raised to show three burners glowing with even blue flame under clean stainless grates, the knob panel below with knobs, the access doors under the grill closed, plants softly blurred behind, daylight, seasonless.

American Outdoor Grill
Repair

For an American Outdoor Grill, the tech starts with the fuel source, whether a cylinder on the cart or a line from the house, then lights each burner in turn.

American Outdoor Grill grills,
specifically.

American Outdoor Grill comes from R.H. Peterson, the company behind Fire Magic, but keeps to a plainer design: L-Series and T-Series grills in 24, 30 and 36 inch widths, built in or moved onto a cart or post base. There is no display to read, so an AOG visit runs on the spark at each valve, the flame and, on L-Series models, the lights.

Error codesAmerican Outdoor Grill publishes no codes, and its grills have no display. The signals are the click of the spark at each valve and, on L-Series models, lights that stay dark when the power supply has gone into protection mode.

What is particular
to American Outdoor Grill.

We service AOG L-Series and T-Series grills in 24, 30 and 36 inch widths, whether built into an island, set on an AOG cart base or mounted on a patio or in-ground post. The base matters because the post version adds the shut-off timer to the gas path.

The spark lives in the valve

AOG builds the igniter into the valve, so turning a knob to HI LIGHT clicks and fires that burner. When a burner gives no spark, AOG points to replacing the valve rather than a separate igniter module.

L-Series and T-Series are not the same grill

Interior lights and the LED strip are L-Series features that the T-Series does not carry. Knowing which one is in the island tells us whether a lights complaint applies at all.

A timer that closes the gas

Grills on an AOG post base use a dial timer that shuts the gas off after up to an hour. AOG asks for it to be tested about once a month and replaced by a gas professional if gas keeps flowing at OFF.

Colored lights on a remote

L-Series LED strips change color from an RF remote powered by a CR2025 coin cell that needs no aiming. When the strip and oven lights are both dark with the outlet live, AOG points to the power supply's protection mode.

Parts

AOG lists cooking grids, vaporizer panels, burners and valves by width in the owner's manual, and most are shared by L and T models of the same size. Because the spark comes from the valve, an AOG ignition repair usually means a valve order.

Repair or replace

An AOG with sound housings is worth repairing for valves, burners and vaporizer panels, and the stainless burners and housings carry lifetime coverage for the original owner. A small post-mounted grill with a rusted firebox may be closer to replacement than a 36-inch built-in head.

Questions about
American Outdoor Grill grills.

Why won't my American Outdoor Grill spark?
AOG says to retry the lighting sequence quickly, and if the valve still gives no spark, the valve is replaced. Adjusting the air shutters and clearing clogged carry-over ports are the other checks it lists.
What does the timer on an AOG post-mounted grill do?
It shuts the gas off after the time you set, up to one hour. AOG recommends testing it about once a month and replacing it if gas still flows at OFF.
Why are the lights on my AOG grill out?
On an L-Series grill, check the GFCI first. If the outlet is live, the power supply may be in protection mode, which AOG clears by disconnecting and reconnecting the harness and the supply.
Can an American Outdoor Grill built-in go on a cart?
Yes. AOG cart bases in 24, 30 and 36 inch sizes turn L-Series and T-Series built-in grills into mobile grills.
