Capital grills,
specifically.

Capital Cooking is known today for its indoor cooking line, and its current US site lists no outdoor grills. It did sell Precision Series grills built in and freestanding, and Professional Series built-in grills, and those are the Capital grills we still find on patios. We treat them as older equipment, so part availability is settled before a repair is booked.

Where it sitsCapital's current US site lists only indoor cooking appliances, so no grill type is sold new under the Capital name.

Capital sold Precision Series grills, built in and freestanding, and Professional Series built-in grills, and an archived copy of its outdoor page from 2021 still lists them. Today its product pages cover indoor cooking, hoods, warming drawers and undercounter refrigeration. We still service the Capital grills already installed.

What is particular
to Capital.

The Capital outdoor grills we see are the Precision Series in 30, 40 and 52-inch sizes, built in or freestanding, and the Professional Series 32 and 36-inch built-ins with a flush-mount rotisserie. None of them appear on Capital's current product pages.

Glow igniters that stay on

Precision grills light with an electric igniter that glows when a knob is turned on and keeps glowing while the burner runs, relighting it if the flame goes out. No glow at all means no power reaching the igniter, so we start at the breaker and the connections.

Large W-shaped burners

Each Precision grill section uses a heavy 304 stainless W-shaped burner rated at 25,000 BTU per hour, or an infrared Sear-Perfect Zone burner in its place. Their size spreads heat widely, so a cold spot usually means a blocked port or a misaligned burner.

Stainless-and-ceramic radiants

Capital's hybrid radiants are ceramic encased in stainless steel, set above the burners to even out heat and cut flare-ups. They lift out and reverse for self-cleaning, and cracked or missing radiants are a common reason for uneven heat.

A rotisserie burner with its own safety valve

The rotisserie burner has an automatic safety valve and will not stay lit until it is hot, so the knob is held in for 10 seconds after lighting. Capital also warns that wind affects this burner more than the protected grill burners.

Parts

With the outdoor line gone from Capital's site, glow igniters, W burners and radiants have to be sourced by model and can take time. We confirm a part can be found before the repair is scheduled.

Repair or replace

A Capital grill with a sound stainless body is worth repairing when the part is still available, since its burners and radiants are heavy. When a glow igniter or valve can no longer be sourced, replacing the grill becomes the practical choice, and we say so after the diagnosis.

Questions about
Capital grills.

Why is there a glow near my Capital grill burner while I cook?
That is the igniter, and it is meant to stay on. Capital designed it to keep glowing while the burner is in use so it can relight the burner if the flame goes out while gas is still flowing.
My Capital grill will not light and there is no glow. What should I check?
The igniter needs electricity, so check the grill's power connection and the breaker first. Capital's manual says the grill can still be lit by match during a power failure; if power is present and there is still no glow, book a visit.
Does Capital still make outdoor grills?
Not on its current US site, which lists indoor cooking products only. Capital grills already installed can still be repaired as long as parts can be sourced.
