A large stainless built-in gas grill head set into a stone island on a sunny patio, its hood raised to show three burners glowing with even blue flame under clean stainless grates, the knob panel below with knobs, the access doors under the grill closed, plants softly blurred behind, daylight, seasonless.

Alfresco grills,
specifically.

Alfresco builds two very different grills in City of Industry, California: the long-running ALXE with a spark igniter button and stainless U-burners, and the newer AIPG Intelligent Professional Grill with glowing auto-relight igniters, lit knobs and a wireless probe. Both come built-in or on a cart, and the first question at an Alfresco visit is which of the two is on the patio.

The Alfresco lineup

What is particular
to Alfresco.

We service Alfresco ALXE grills, including the 56-inch ALXE-56 and the SZ Sear Zone models, and the AIPG-36 and AIPG-42, built-in or on the cart. The ALXE sparks from a button and the AIPG lights from glowing igniters that stay on, so the ignition checks differ completely.

A separate igniter button on the ALXE

On the ALXE you press the igniter button and turn the knob together, and a rapid snapping confirms the spark. No snapping sends us to the button and its power before we look at the burner.

Glass shields over the AIPG burners

The AIPG covers its burners with Thermaglass radiant shields instead of metal bars, with drippings running off into trays. The glass pieces must sit on their ledges before lighting, and a cracked one is a replacement part.

A Sear Zone in the position you choose

Both lines take an infrared Sear Zone, and on the AIPG it can go in the left, center or right zone. Alfresco has the U-burners lit and preheated before the Sear Zone is lit.

Spiders and a fire behind the valve panel

Alfresco warns that insects nesting in a burner can push gas out the front of it and set the space behind the valve panel alight. Popping burners or yellow flames with a gas smell are its signs to inspect at once, not just twice a year.

Parts

Alfresco posts parts manuals by model, including one covering the AIPG-36 and AIPG-42. AIPG parts such as the glass shields, the wireless probe and the LED strip under the bullnose are specific to that grill, and Alfresco sends the LED strip question to the factory.

Repair or replace

Burners, igniters, valves and Sear Zone burners are all repairable on both Alfresco lines. An older ALXE with a rusted-through firebox is where replacing it deserves a look.

Questions about
Alfresco grills.

Why does my Alfresco igniter snap but the burner does not catch?
Press the igniter button and turn the knob right away. If the burner has not lit within 4 seconds, Alfresco says to turn the knobs off and wait 5 minutes before trying again.
Why do my Alfresco burners make popping noises?
Alfresco lists popping as a sign that spiders or insects may be in the burners. Inspect them right away, because a blocked burner can send gas toward the valve panel.
Can the Alfresco AIPG be used without the phone app?
Yes, the knobs, lights and burners all work from the grill. The app is only needed for target temperatures, alarms and switching to Celsius.
What powers the rotisserie and lights on an Alfresco ALXE?
Both run through a single three-prong plug that Alfresco wants in a grounded GFCI outlet. If both stop at once, check that outlet first.
