What E17
actually means.

The Searwood's meat probes plug into a hub on the front of the hopper, which is wired to the circuit board. E17 means that hub or its connection has dropped out, so the grill keeps cooking but can no longer show your food temperature.

What to do when E17 shows on the grill

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Weber's own guidance for E17 on its grills. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press the dial to dismiss the notification and keep cooking.

02

Check food doneness with a separate thermometer until the hub is fixed.

03

Unplug and reseat each meat probe in the hub, making sure the plugs are dry.

04

If E17 comes back on the next cook, book a visit to check the hub wiring at the board.

It usually turns into pellet grill auger and controller repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E17 is about the food probes, not the cookbox sensor, which is E8. The grill itself still holds temperature with E17 on the screen.

Questions
about E17.

Can I clear E17 myself?
Press the dial to dismiss the notification and keep cooking. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does E17 affect how my Weber Searwood cooks?
No. The grill holds its set temperature. It just cannot show the temperature of your food.
Can a wet meat probe cause E17 on my Weber?
Moisture in a probe plug can upset readings. Dry and reseat the probes first; if the code stays, the hub or its wiring is the problem.
Is E17 the same as the probe reading wrong on my Weber?
Not exactly. E17 means the hub stopped reporting. A probe that reads but reads wrong is checked against a separate thermometer.

Still showing E17?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code copied exactly, the model and serial from the rating label, and a word on whether the grill still lights, heats or feeds pellets. With those three the office can match the likely part to your grill the same day.
