What E9
actually means.

Searwood models with a fuel gauge measure the pellet level with a sensor in the hopper. E9 means that sensor or its wiring has stopped working; the grill still cooks, but the pellet level on the screen and in the app can no longer be trusted.

What to do when E9 shows on the grill

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Weber's own guidance for E9 on its grills. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press the dial to dismiss the notification and carry on cooking if you need to.

02

Check the hopper by eye during the cook, since the grill cannot warn you about low pellets.

03

After the cook, shut down, let the grill cool and unplug it; book a visit if E9 returns so the gauge wiring and probe hub connection can be checked.

Still there?

It usually turns into pellet grill auger and controller repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E9 does not mean the hopper is empty, which is the low fuel notification E21. A gauge that only needs its lens wiped shows E20.

Questions
about E9.

Can I clear E9 myself?
Press the dial to dismiss the notification and carry on cooking if you need to. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I keep cooking on my Weber with E9 on the screen?
Yes. E9 is a dismissible notification, so pressing the dial lets the cook continue. You just need to check the pellet level yourself.
Why does my Weber show E9 but not E21?
E9 means the gauge is not working at all, so it also cannot warn you when pellets run low. Watch the hopper until the gauge is repaired.
Is E9 the same as a dirty fuel sensor on a Weber?
No. A sensor that only needs its lens wiped shows E20. E9 points to the gauge or its wiring.

Still showing E9?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code copied exactly, the model and serial from the rating label, and a word on whether the grill still lights, heats or feeds pellets. With those three the office can match the likely part to your grill the same day.
