What Err
actually means.
The OVEN number on an Echelon comes from a thermocouple inside the grill connected to the thermometer by a wire harness. Err means that signal is missing, because the plug has come apart, a wire is damaged or the thermocouple has failed.

A probe is sending the controller a reading it cannot trust, or no reading at all: the grill's own temperature sensor coated in smoke and grease, its lead pinched or melted, or a meat probe unplugged, wet or reading far outside what any cook box could reach. The grill then overshoots, stalls or shuts down to be safe. Wiping the sensor once the grill is cold and reseating the probe in its jack are reasonable steps; a sensor that still reads wrong is a visit.

Turn the thermometer off and on with its power switch to rule out a one-time glitch.
Let the grill cool, then check the thermocouple lead where it plugs in behind the panel if you can reach it without tools; do not open any gas parts.
If Err stays, book a visit to test and replace the thermocouple or its harness.
