What E4
actually means.

On the Searwood the display clips onto the hopper and connects through a USB-C plug at its back. E4 shows when the board and the display lose their link, which can be as simple as a plug that has been knocked half out or as serious as a failed board.

What to do when E4 shows on the grill

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Weber's own guidance for E4 on its grills. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Let the grill shut down and cool fully, then unplug it.

02

Check that the display is seated firmly on the front of the hopper without prying it with tools.

03

Plug back in and start a cook so the controller can run its 30-second check.

04

If E4 stays, book a visit to check the display cable and the circuit board.

It usually turns into grill lights and electronics repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E4 is not a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth problem with the Weber Connect app; an app that will not pair shows no E-code on the grill. It is also not the Grill ID error, which Weber numbers E16.

Where E4 usually leads

Searwood 600 and Searwood XL 600 pellet grills with the Weber Connect digital controller (US owner's guide, 2024). SmokeFire grills use E4 for a communication failure between the controller and the grill.

Questions
about E4.

Can I clear E4 myself?
Let the grill shut down and cool fully, then unplug it. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does E4 on my Weber mean the app has disconnected?
No. E4 is about the display and the grill's own board. App pairing trouble is handled through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings and does not raise an E-code.
Can a cover or a bump cause E4 on a Searwood?
It can if the display has been pushed partly off its plug. Weber's first step is to check that USB-C connection behind the display.
Will a new display fix E4 on my Weber?
Only if the display is the part that failed. A loose cable or a board problem shows the same code, so both are checked before anything is ordered.

Back to your everyday

Still showing E4?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code copied exactly, the model and serial from the rating label, and a word on whether the grill still lights, heats or feeds pellets. With those three the office can match the likely part to your grill the same day.
