What Standby Mode (display off)
actually means.
When the grill is below 170 degrees F and nobody touches the panel for 10 minutes, the thermometer goes into Standby Mode and switches its display off. Above 170 degrees it stays on. A swipe across the buttons wakes it.

What to do when Standby Mode (display off) shows on the grillKind of codeMode, not a failure
Nothing on the grill has failed; the controller is showing a state it was put in on purpose. A shutdown cycle keeps the fan running to burn off the last pellets before the grill goes quiet, a keep-warm setting holds the cook box low, a demo mode lights the display without feeding fuel, and a pairing screen waits for a phone to connect. No part is needed; the button sequence in the manual, or simply letting the cycle finish, returns it to normal.

Swipe your hand across the button area to wake the display.
Shows up asGrill Error Code on a Pellet Controller or Digital Panel
A grill error code shows as letters and numbers on a pellet grill controller, a flashing light on a digital control panel, or an alert in the maker's app paired with the grill.

Fire Magic owners usually describe a burner that lights late or not at all; our visit starts by timing that delay at each knob.

Echelon Diamond gas grills with the touch-panel digital thermometer (E660i, E790i, E1060i and their portable s versions). The EL500i electric grill shows the same reading on its own display; Aurora and Choice grills with a dial thermometer show nothing.
Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Fire Magic's own guidance for Standby Mode (display off) on its grills. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Swipe your hand across the button area to wake the display.
If it stays dark, check the thermometer power switch on the right side of the control panel.
If neither wakes it, check the GFCI and the power supply light, then book a visit if the display is still dead.
Cleared?
The code is gone from the controller, the grill climbs to its set heat and holds it through a full cook, the pellets keep dropping and the probe readings stay believable, all without a new part. If the same code comes back within a week, or after the next rain, mention it when you book.
What not to do
A dark display in standby is not a power failure and does not affect the burners. It does not mean the grill is cold either, only that it is under 170 degrees with no recent touch.
What you may
notice with it.
The grill problems Standby Mode (display off) tends to arrive with. Answer these at the grill before anyone is booked.

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code copied exactly, the model and serial from the rating label, and a word on whether the grill still lights, heats or feeds pellets. With those three the office can match the likely part to your grill the same day.
