What Cooldown Mode
actually means.
Pressing the red stop icon halts the auger and speeds up the fan so the pellets left in the burner pot burn out. The grill stays in Cooldown Mode until it reads 160°F inside; then the fan shuts itself off and the grill can be switched off.

What to do when Cooldown Mode shows on the grillKind of codeMode, not a failure
Nothing on the grill has failed; the controller is showing a state it was put in on purpose. A shutdown cycle keeps the fan running to burn off the last pellets before the grill goes quiet, a keep-warm setting holds the cook box low, a demo mode lights the display without feeding fuel, and a pairing screen waits for a phone to connect. No part is needed; the button sequence in the manual, or simply letting the cycle finish, returns it to normal.
Usually leads toNo repair
Let the cycle finish; a running fan with no new pellets is exactly what should be happening.
Shows up asGrill Error Code on a Pellet Controller or Digital Panel
A grill error code shows as letters and numbers on a pellet grill controller, a flashing light on a digital control panel, or an alert in the maker's app paired with the grill.
MakeCoyote
On a Coyote call, the tech clears the firebox of grease and debris before judging a weak burner, since a clogged tray can mimic a gas problem.

C2P28 and C2P36 start it automatically after stop. On the older C1P grills a dialog box announces the mode, with an Exit button to bypass it that Coyote does not recommend using.
Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Coyote's own guidance for Cooldown Mode on its grills. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Let the cycle finish; a running fan with no new pellets is exactly what should be happening.
Wait for the fan to stop before pressing the power button or unplugging the grill.
If the fan never stops or the grill never falls toward 160°F, switch off, let it cool completely and book a visit to have the grill sensor and the fan checked.
Cleared?
The code is gone from the controller, the grill climbs to its set heat and holds it through a full cook, the pellets keep dropping and the probe readings stay believable, all without a new part. If the same code comes back within a week, or after the next rain, mention it when you book.
What not to do
Cooldown Mode is not the grill shutting down because something went wrong; that is the low temperature alarm. Smoke during cooldown is the last pellets burning away, not a new fire.
What you may
notice with it.
The grill problems Cooldown Mode tends to arrive with. Answer these at the grill before anyone is booked.

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code copied exactly, the model and serial from the rating label, and a word on whether the grill still lights, heats or feeds pellets. With those three the office can match the likely part to your grill the same day.
