Fletcher Cove, the town's beach access, was carved out with a fire hose: one man spent three months washing away earth with water spilling from the Lake Hodges Dam. ## What Solana Beach does to a grill. Colonel Ed Fletcher bought 140 acres from farmer George H. Jones in 1922 to lay out the town, working with his brother-in-law Eugene Batchelder. Long before settlers arrived, the Kumeyaay lived at Kulaumai, a village beside the south shore of San Elijo Lagoon. Solana Beach became a city in 1986, the same year it hosted the funeral services for Desi Arnaz. [All of San Diego](https://bbqgrillrepair.center/locations/san-diego/) ### On the water Before a hurricane or a coastal storm, a grill by salt water has its tank closed and taken off or its gas shut off, and it is strapped down or moved inside, since wind can throw a cart grill; afterward it stays unlit until checked. ### Seasonal houses Owners closing a seasonal house help the grill most by shutting the tank valve or the gas shutoff, emptying the grease tray and covering the grill only once it is dry, since a cover pulled over damp grease breeds mold. ### Balconies and small yards Where a small patio or balcony allows grilling at all, a compact cart grill often stands close to a wall or a railing, and the maker's clearances to walls and overhangs are checked first, since heat on siding does more harm than any failed part. ## A visit in Solana Beach.
