Santa Clara County Fire, which serves Los Altos Hills, has adopted the Fire Code's barbecue rules for balconies, patios and decks of buildings with more than two dwelling units. ## What Los Altos Hills does to a grill. Under those rules a charcoal or other open-flame grill may not run on a combustible balcony or within 10 feet of combustible construction unless automatic sprinklers protect it, and one- and two-family homes are exempt. A propane grill whose tank holds more than one pound may be neither stored nor used on such a balcony, with no sprinkler exception, while electric grills carry no restriction. The hills of Los Altos Hills are typically green in winter and brown in summer. [All of San Francisco Bay Area](https://bbqgrillrepair.center/locations/bay-area/) ### Gated communities Clubhouse and pool grills in gated communities serve many members and often run on natural gas, and wear piles up fast at shared grills: loose knobs, igniter buttons pressed thousands of times and grease trays left full. ### Premium built-in grill heads Premium grill heads set in stone often carry infrared sear burners, a rotisserie, a back burner and lit knobs, each a separate system with its own igniter and valve, so a technician checks every one on a visit rather than only the one that stopped. ### Family houses Suburban grills used for weekly family dinners wear their igniters and grates steadily, and grass clippings and leaves drift into the grease tray, which can turn a routine flare-up into a lasting grease fire if the tray is left full. ## A visit in Los Altos Hills.
