# Grill guides, read first.

A grill repair guide is only useful if it answers the question you actually have, so these are split by what you are trying to find out — is this worth paying for, what is that noise, what can I check myself — rather than by which part of the appliance it concerns.

## Work out what you are dealing with.

Split by what you are trying to find out rather than by what part of the appliance it concerns.

Reading did not fix it?

### The work itself

Every guide here ends in the same place: what a technician actually does about it, in the order it gets done.

10 kinds of work Cheapest cause first What a visit costs

See what we do

Curious what the repair might come to? That has a page of its own, since no honest figure exists until someone has lit the grill and watched the flame — [grill repair cost](https://bbqgrillrepair.center/cost/).

## Not sure where to start?

A handful of questions come up in almost every grill booking. The four guides below are for whoever is standing at a grill that clicks without catching, burns too low after a tank swap or has shown a flame where no flame should be, and several of them end with no visit needed.

[Or start from the symptom](https://bbqgrillrepair.center/problems/)

### Flame where the knobs are Flashback Behind the Grill Knobs: Flame at the Wrong End of the Burner

Why a web in a venturi tube moves the flame behind the control panel, the sound and signs to know, closing the gas from a safe spot, and keeping the tubes clear.

### Clicks, but no flame Grill won't light? Silent igniter, dry burner or a tank that never opened

Silence, a snap with no rush of gas, or both and still no flame. How each points to the igniter, the fuel or the burner, the five-minute wait, and the pellet grill that never gets past startup.

### A low flame after a new tank How to reset the propane regulator when the grill stays lukewarm

Opening the tank with a knob on trips a safety device that cuts the gas to a trickle. Clearing it in five steps, how long Weber, Lynx and Napoleon say to wait, and what a reset cannot fix.

### Worth fixing or time for a new one Repair or Replace a Grill: Firebox, Manifold and the Parts Still Worth Buying

Which grill parts are ordinary wear, when a failed cookbox or valve manifold ends the story, why a built-in head leans toward repair, and what to find out before paying for either.

## When reading is not enough.

If the checks in a guide did not settle it, a technician picks up from there. The visit, stop by stop.

[What repairs cost](https://bbqgrillrepair.center/cost/)

1. 01 The gas and the grill, checked first
2. 02 What failed, and what it costs
3. 03 Parts on the truck
4. 04 Lit before we leave

## When there is no time to read.

These four put the people at the grill in danger and mean the gas stays closed until we come: a gas smell at the grill, the hose or the tank, a grease fire that keeps burning with the knobs down, flame curling out behind the control panel, or a knob that turns to off while the burner stays lit. Each page puts the causes in the order worth checking, and says when to stop and book.

## Questions about the guides.

### Can a grill guide save me a visit?

Often. Plenty of calls end at a tank valve opened too fast, a dead AA battery in the igniter, a web inside a burner tube, a grease tray left to fill or a pellet hopper full of swollen pellets. The guides explain why each happens and which checks are safe with the gas closed; the fittings, the valves and a hot firepot stay with us.

### Are the grill guides written for one make?

Mostly not. A gas burner draws air through its venturi, a spark igniter jumps a gap and a pellet auger turns on a motor in much the same way on every grill, so the guides follow the part, not the badge. Where a maker does it differently, the guide says so, and your own manual always wins over our text.

### Guide or problem page: where should a grill owner start?

If the grill is acting up today, start with the problem pages, which open with what you can see at the grill. The guides suit slower decisions: built-in or cart, infrared or standard burners, converting to natural gas, cleaning burners and venturi tubes, and when a new grill beats another repair.

### Where do the facts in the grill guides come from?

Every fact that can be checked names its source: a maker's use and care or installation manual, the NFPA and U.S. Fire Administration grilling safety pages, CPSC notes on propane tanks, or USDA food safety guidance. A line without a citation comes from our own grill calls, and it says so.
