The thermocouple inside the cookbox tells the controller how hot the grill is, and the controller feeds pellets based on that reading. With E8 the reading is missing or impossible, so the grill cannot hold temperature and shuts down. Weber grill display What to do when E8 shows on the grill ### Kind of code Temperature and probes A probe is sending the controller a reading it cannot trust, or no reading at all: the grill's own temperature sensor coated in smoke and grease, its lead pinched or melted, or a meat probe unplugged, wet or reading far outside what any cook box could reach. The grill then overshoots, stalls or shuts down to be safe. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Let the grill shut down and cool fully, then unplug it. 02 Open the lid and make sure nothing, such as foil or a pan, is pressed against the temperature sensor inside the cookbox. 03 Start a cook to let the controller retest the sensor. 04 If E8 remains, book a visit to check the sensor connection at the board and replace the thermocouple. ### Still there? Let the grill shut down and cool fully, then unplug it. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Is E8 on my Weber about my meat probe? No. E8 is the fixed sensor inside the cookbox. Meat probe and probe hub trouble is E17. ### Can grease on the sensor cause E8 on a Weber pellet grill? Buildup can throw off a reading, but E8 usually means a broken connection or a failed sensor. Cleaning is worth doing, and a repeat code needs the part checked. ### Why can't my Weber cook at all with E8?
